APEX Express - September 15, 2005

We'll bring you an update from Seung Hong in New Orleans* about the impact of Hurricane Katrina on Asian Pacific Islanders in the Gulf States. Then hear about Lalon Phokir, a legendary mystic from the Baul sect of traveling minstrels and philosophers from the countryside of Bengal asApex Express talks with Sudipto Chatterjee, assistant professor of theater, at the University of California at Berkeley. We'll have music from Moushumi Bhowmick, one of Bengal's most well known folk musicians, and we'll hear live music and spoken words from young Asian American artists that will be performing at Kearney Street Workshop's annual arts extravganza, Aparture, the biggest Asian Pacific Islander arts festival in the Bay area. And, a new launch: (*includes Audio Clip & Article on New Orleans' musical heritage). Plus, go to for more info on our first-of-the-month API hip-hop show.
