Voices of the Middle East and North Africa - December 20, 2006

In this week's program, we will speak with Iranian labor unionist Ebrahim Madadi about the continuing struggle of transit workers in Tehran to defend their rights to form and maintain an independent workers organization and better their lives. Ebrahim Madadi is the Vice-President of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company. The syndicate came under the spot light in December of 2005 after organizing a successful work stoppage, and significantly impacting life in the country's capital, Tehran, a city of 12 million souls. To find out more about the struggle of the transit workers in Tehran, visit the web site of the International Transport Workers.

Later in the program, we will speak with a famous young French writer of Algerian descent Faiza Guene on her best seller Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow and the political context in which that book was written.
