In the matter of "Don't Get Me Wrong" by the Pretenders (Live in London): This cut, as played (8/18/11) was over-the-top electrifying, manna for my manic depressive soul. I knew I had to have it in my collection of bipolar music, so I tracked down the link to the podcast so I could be sure to find out the particulars of this performance. Once I had these, it was a simple matter to order a copy off of Amazon. Imagine my disappointment when I played this cut off of my new "Live In London" CD. Undeterred, I managed to download it from the podcast using CDSpinDoctor software (is that illegal, I wonder?). So I compared the two versions of this performance—the one from the CD and the one from your podcast. They are not the same. First of all, some audio engineer decided to lengthen it from it's original 3:43 length to 4:14. And not only that, he dicked w/ the balance. In the podcast, to my ear anyway, the drum set and bass are basically featured, and Chrissie Hynde not so much. In the CD version, just the opposite obtains, with the result that the CD performance is pale in comparison to what KPFA broadcast on 8/18. So? Well, if you're bipolar like me, you won't be able to get off on the former. I'm medicated now, so my glory days are pretty much over, but I am able to get glimpses of them, to relive for a moment their thrill and excitement in such music as this, to be set free once again, if only for a moment. Ah, the simple pleasures of the simple minded.
