“Picture Big Star and Golden Smog driving along a beach road in California and into the sunset.” That’s how Sylvie Simmons, writing in Mojo, describes the sound of The Mother Hips’ latest CD, Pacific Dust. She also compares the band favorably to Wilco. Tonight, the northern California rock quartet, founded by singer-guitarists Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono, and rounded out by drummer John Hofer and bassist Paul Hoaglin, plays live on The Hear & Now, hosted by Derk Richardson. The band plays The Fillmore on Saturday, Sept. 18. More information motherhips.com
