I know Isherhood was well known in my grandparents' and parents' generation...I am so glad you played excerpts from his play. I realize now that he was a man trapped in his time, culture and constrains. That constant obsession with "the demons inside" (whatever that means) and "negativity" (a man who cannot express, let go, enjoy and go wild) might have been trapped in his body and desires that were not well accepted, understood and integrated. As a heterosexual I'd be interested to know how Ishwerhood related to those from the colonies of England? Did he understand their misery, oppression and struggles, as well as their beauty, goodness, generosity, kindness, original rawness...or did he only wish their customs and rituals (labeled crazy and uncivilized) be his?
I loved his voice....feminine without being hesitant and weak
