Is not Dr. Paul Farmer

Is not Dr. Paul Farmer amazing! It is these kinds of doctors, academics, scientists and people who make the US proud and humanity proud. My wife, an amazing social worker, social educator and social activist herself, admires him greatly.

It takes guts to do this kind of development or crisis and disaster relief work year after year. Most of us are exhausted after a few months.

We'll get the book once we return from Canada. Thank you! These are the stories of inspiration - the rest of the news seems so depressing and anger producing. When are we, as a human race, going to grow up. While they are haggling over peanuts in social services, additional money has been given to the military. When are we going to stop this skewed valued system?

Best wishes to Dr. Farmer and Ms.Goodman

I forgot to add that hemp

I forgot to add that hemp grows to full size in about 14 weeks, so Haitians could have been growing a LOT of hemp in the last 18 months, being as how they could grow it year round. It's positively bizarre that this miracle plant isn't even on the radar of one of the best sources of alternative news available. One link - http://www.thehia.org/ The Hemp Industries Association Convention will be in San Francisco in November.

The single most viable

The single most viable solution for Haiti would be to grow industrial hemp. It's an incredible plant that could provide all basic needs to Haitians. Its seeds are the most nutritious food in the world. Its fiber is superior to cotton without the need for pesticides and herbicides. Hemp fiber could be made into clothing, as well as shelter in the form of yurts. Hemp can be made into superior building materials for traditional structures. "Hempcrete" is stronger and lighter than concrete. Hemp plastic is stronger and lighter than steel. Haiti could become a leader in industrial hemp production and show the world how this incredible plant could save not only Haiti, but the planet as well. Hemp is a weed that would supply basic needs with superior food, clothing, shelter, fuel, and thousands of other products. It's a crime against humanity that the US government has outlawed the growth and production of this miracle plant. HEMP FOR HAITI!!! HEMP FOR ALL!!! HEMP, HEMP, HOORAY!!!
