If Americans themselves want to move away from the hard work of confronting hateful people in their own communities, and prefer to live and work in the comfort zones of Los Angeles, New York city or San Francisco - singing to or collaborating with the choir - then who is going to bell the cat of the sixty percent that never learns or sees itself objectively or critically - and yet dominates politics in the most disturbing ways?
It has taken over ten yeas for the truth about the "race and hate violence" committed against so many Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and others - misunderstood and judged by ignorant, racist or xenophobic people, to be brought to justice. Justice delayed or skewed is justice denied. As Riaz beautifully put it (paraphrased), "Everytime you kill someone who has committed a henious crime full of hate justice is not fully served - and real changes in the attitude of millions of people does not always occur".
While I welcome Riaz's effort to save one life, I hope he goes out there and starts confronting the awful psychology that dominates so many Anglo men and women across the US so ignorant about their own social history, and so judgmental towards anyone who is not a red neck or a white trash (as my Anglo family jokingly used to say). Many Southerners themselves are abandoning ship and preferring to move to Canada, as my wife noticed while there.
