A fund-raising show. Jack’s premium is his book, O Powerful Western Star: Poetry & Art in California. The book, published by Pantograph Press, is 234 pages long and contains a performance CD on which Jack and his wife Adelle perform some of the pieces in the book. It was one of the winners of the Artist's Embassy International Literary/Cultural Award and the Chronicle’s David Kipen described it in a review as “galvanizing”: “an unparalleled cultural history of the past half century from Bodega Bay to the Pacheco Pass.” There is a wide variety of pieces in the book, ranging from a history of the Batman Art Gallery in San Francisco to in-depth interviews with Allen Ginsberg and Native American writer Gerald Vizenor to a short time line of poetry in California from 1940 to 2000.
