Thank you Mickey. We need you and Peter .
Re-instate the Morning show with Aimee and Brian.
I have donated and have been a paid member to kpfa.
I will only support kpfa through the Savekpfa.org organization until the Morning Show returns.......................
You say, Josh, you will only support KPFA through SaveKPFA, but that's oxymoronic.
To support KPFA is to support transparency and democratic process at KPFA. Selectively funding a particular program or hosts undermines the overall strength of KPFA. Essentially, under that thinking, we'd end up with a privatization of KPFA programming whereby wealthier member-donors would be able to wield their financial power to control KPFA's editorial direction. In this way, we'd likely see the interests of wealthier listeners increasingly supplanting issues of concern to working class and impoverished listeners. There is a difference in consciousness between the houses in the hills and the houses in the flats, whether we want to admit this or not. It wouldn't be long before politically-motivated and well-funded groups would begin funnelling money into KPFA, inevitably affecting KPFA's content.
It's not hard to imagine corporations or corporate political parties engaging in this in no time. Project Censored is the most progressive morning show KPFA has had in decades, fearlessly addressing topics and issues Aimee Allison, Brian Edwards-Tiekert, Philip Maldari, nor Kris Welch, nor any other morning host has ever covered. I remember listening with nausea as the former morning show cheer-leaded for Obama in 2008 and consistently refused to critique or even question the Democratic Party status quo. And yet, ostensibly they, like KPFA, stands for social justice, yet refuses to appropriately frame the role of the Democratic Party in undermining social justice. (We keep in mind, all these SaveKPFA individuals care more for their own Wellstone Democrat ideology, than they do for airing voices not heard elsewhere. And we keep in mind, those individuals associated with SaveKPFA have engaged in union-busting by replacing the former Electrical Workers Union with the corrupt CWA union, which refuses to respect unpaid workers at KPFA. Also, these same individuals, have been involved in undermining the Unpaid Staff Organisation. In short, they have a horrible track record of self-interest and acting to fracture KPFA's internal cohesion. SupportKPFA.org has more info.)
Even if all this were not so, the way to address programming issues at KPFA is to support due process in the form of the Local Station Board, Program Council, and management interface.
What we need is more debate to get your and other's concerns out in the open. We need town hall meetings to accomplish this. But Brian Edwards-Tiekert, Maldari, CS Soong, Sasha Lilley, Aileen Alfandary, et al. will never debate publicly because they represent an indefensible position contrary to their public image as champions of truth and social justice. It's unfortunate that Brian Edwards-Tiekert, Aimee Allison and their SaveKPFA faction have engaged in unscrupulous behavior on-air, on the Local Station Board, and at the station for years. There is far too much corruption to describe here, from harassment of fellow workers, intimidation, calling the police for petty issues instead of adhering to sane HR practices, etc. But this is true. Simply come to the LSB meetings and you'll find out for yourself. You don't have to take my word for it. Contact the folks at SupportKPFA.org and find out for yourself. And in the meantime, support KPFA by donating to the station and getting involved in fair and transparent decision-making processes.
