Frankly, the morning news has been declining. It borrows from other news programs - like Democracy Now!, and focuses exclusively on Middle East as the only international news. Another form, as one ME journalist called, "Middle East voyureism". That is why I like the talk show...you get more information, analyses and opinions...separated, without becoming another Jon Stewart-CNN show!
But this is in response to Democracy Now!'s interview with Barbara Ehrenreich. She is wonderful, and she writes lucidly. But she did not say more than what I've known as a social worker for years. For many people work is not liberating, it is not helpful and it does not help their families. They are better off on welfare, and they function better mentally and physically because of it. Some many earn more in their jobs but they are terrible at their work, they are stressed and they do not move forward.
I hired a cleaning agency in Iowa...where one woman boss said bluntly, "This is a business first and foremost" Her attitude to her workers and her clients was all about how much she can milk fromf bot - her employees and her clients.. In this world it is not just employees get stiffed, it is clients and consumers too. You get unhappy workers and unhappy clients most of the time. And you get a prosperous callous employers.
I remember a waitress who said bluntly, "Not everybody can do this! But so many come in, with desperation, and take these jobs. They get exploited - or they are terrible at their work even if they are paid well. Then you get clients who are paying, but are not getting the services they need, like abusing people in a nursing home.
It is easy to blame the woman of color in-between - who are paying to bail out the rich and keep the poor afloat. But who is taking care of the giver, giver and the giver? This is why middle class is saying, "If I cannot be supported, protected and appropriately promoted...then who is going to take care of the poor. The rich? Was this not the problem that was caused by the rich!"
I also note how everything is White and Black too. Suddenly my Brown friends who end up on welfare in stead of their high college education..go down further. You still don't tell us how you spend your funds raised?
Bring back the daily Morning Show with Aimee and Brian.
The pacifica management came in and took our local community broadcast. We no longer get to hear about how the Rank Choice Voting has transfer the power from Democrate and Republican stangle hold to a third party. This new voting scheme is a big DANGER to the establishment and therefore had to be eliminated.
Thank Aileen Englehard and the other pacific management for coming to our community and censuring the news.
I will only donate to the kfpf throught the SaveKpfa.org site. This organization is committed to bring back the morning show host Aimee and Brian...
