It is no surprise to listeners in the UK that Billy Bragg continues to be delusional about Obama, this reflects his unwavering support for the British Labour Party,
Braggs simplistic class analysis is a throwback to the political struggles in the 1970's and1980's when the Labour Party appeared to offer a real progressive alternative to the Conservative Government of Margaret Thatche and John Major
As a contemporary of Bragg I was also instrumental in electing the Labour Party but unlike Bragg I did not quietly accept the Blair Governments continuation of the Conservative Governments economic liberalisation and privatisation policies.
Bragg has continued his silence as the Labour Government bombed Serbia, their invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, the loss of civil liberties in the UK as part of the war on terror and finally the Bank bailouts.
Bragg has very little to say about most contemporary issues, such as climate change and environmental issues, his silence on the issues torture, rendition and war are proof of his complicity.
Ain't nobody that can sing like him.
I like Billy Bragg's music and message. I don't know when this interview was recorded, but he really seem delusional about Obama being different than Bush in the White House. Personally, I have to see objective measurable data, to confirm a president's success and intentions. I can only see evidence that Obama is the same or worse than Bush. Bragg talks about having the door open a crack, etc.. a lot of typical metaphor, la la talk that you hear in folks who still "believe" in Obama. Meanwhile pipeline for the Tar sands is being constructed while Obama ignores, the protesters outside the White House. Why isn't Bragg there with them, instead of touting Obama's phony Hope message. It's disappointing. I guess that's what happens when you turn 50 or something.
