after years of wondering, wiki had the answer. though it was mentioned on OTE a few months ago. doesn't matter; still is "Le Chant de l’Alouette", Jules Breton, 1884 . http://www.artic.edu/aic/calendar/event?EventID=5432&Month=12_2008 smaltz-like ! of course it's smaltz-like. god isn't smaltz-like ?
