Good for you - trying to move beyond “this is not politics”. You pushed well trying to upgrade the conversation; that’s firm acceptance of media’s role.
As well we need to tell people it’s not about taking back – the country, democracy, school, unions, et al. We never HAD those. We’ve had one form and another of enslavement to our Owners here in the U.S. and throughout the millennia. It’ll be a great day when more people get that and know it’s all politics economics society – not separated but a wholly trinity, which is run by the Ruling Class, that we want to stop and take for us all.
These are not high level issues, as I’m sure you agree.
These are us, on the ground, everywhere. We understand our discomfort, our lack of enfranchisement, our grapple for power against our Owners; not a high level study at all.
Calling for Obama to show he’s on our side – you know that can’t happen in capitalism. None of the Presidents has been on ‘our’ side. Even if they’d wanted to be, which they didn’t, they can’t. We function within capitalism. Capitalism is A WAY. It is not other ways. If capitalism were nice it’d be socialism – us benefiting from our work; us all benefiting from people doing what needs to be done in order for us to maintain and enjoy.
People throughout the country try to fit their demands into a framework of possibility, so they refer to Democrats and Republicans, and try to urge that Democrats stop turning away from us. They too, the electeds, have only one arena of action, protection of The Rich, and telling us – lying, of course – they’re taking care of us all – that 99%.
Someone mentioned that working for socialism communism would be ok too.
One demonstrator said ‘we’re not asking for a handout’. I feel badly that people need to say that, to excuse us all for saying we deserve something. We deserve everything! We’ve been dragging ourselves along for forever, here, never been on our feet; no putting America, Americans back on our feet. Even when things were going well for many people, huge numbers of others, especially by race, but also by age and all, were being denied material security.
Anyway, thanks for putting all this out there, Sonali. Good job.
