Wow, I've been listening to KPFA since the 1980s and I've given, and will continue to give, to KPFA all I can, through times of plenty and poverty. But I don't think I've ever heard Davey D so inspired and such impassioned fundraising as heard here. My heart was beating with vigour and my mind at peace listening to this fundraising broadcast knowing our KPFA hosts, like Davey D, are giving it their all for Pacifica's Mission. Next to Dennis Bernstein, Amy Goodman, and others, I think Davey D brings one of the most inspiring and empowering fundraising, precisely because it's so revealing and shows such humanity. These fundraising appeals, at times, capture the purest spirit of KPFA and Pacifica's Mission statement. We are all in this together, as one big, extended KPFA family.
Some, who shall remain nameless, moan and groan or stay away during fundraising periods. Some say they want to give short pitches, fine. Some say they must 'carry their weight around here,' as if all time-slots and programme topics are created equal or as if they can isolate cash contributions as intended solely for their own radio real estate. (Some topics are just as valid, yet have a much tougher time fundraising.)
Some say they want to give listeners a reason to tune in, not tune out, fine. But, for my part, I have never tuned out when it's time for fundraising. I know I cannot be alone in this sentiment. In lieu of open KPFA Town Halls, the fundraising periods are the closest we listeners come to hearing a bit of what lies in the hearts and souls of our favourite KPFA voices. We understand traditional journalistic detachment.
I just want to send big love and respect and support for fundraising appeals, as Davey D has delivered here. Some hosts are aloof or clinical, fine. Some are heartfelt and unabashed with their humanity, even better. Like Amy Goodman once, at least once, has said, "We cannot do it without you. We DON'T WANT to do it without you. Only with you." Only together can KPFA survive and thrive.
Thank you so much KPFA staff, paid and unpaid. And thank you, all listeners and listener-members. You are my lifeline. And I love you.
cheers to your sentiment. I second them!
Hi Davy D.!, Thanks for tour GREAT work!
On the Occupy movement, it's EVERYones opportunity to step up for their rights. POC don't need to wait for others to make space for them, the space is open. MLK didn't wait for a space. Van Jones isn't waiting for a space. Remember the occupy movement is fractions from many areas of movements, no one is waiting to be invited, it's time to stand!! Thank You!! :-) Please keep up the great work!
