For all intents and purposes

For all intents and purposes we are told--in a loving new-age way, of course--to shut up and stop complaining about the economic situation; i.e., the economic inequality between the 99% and the 1%. That to point out this gross inequity is to be guilty of "creating division." And the KPFA folks at the station are singled out as a prime example of these unspiritual complainers. Oh, the poor billionaires have to suffer our bad manners! (Did someone just tell me about Thomas Frank's new book, Pity the Billionaire?) This is a case study in want happens when the underlying assumptions of capitalism come together with New Age spirituality. This is what happens when people "get spiritual"--they get dumbed-down politically. Thus spirituality serves the political and economic status quo. So the message of this program: there's nothing wrong with capitalism that new-age religion can't justify. Because life--with the haves and have-nots--is "just what it is," and we have to accept this as "perfect as it is." In short, an ingenious excuse for the 1% to continue to get away with their plutocratic agenda of neo-feudalism. It couldn't have served the interests of the 1% better than if the Koch brothers set up the program as one of their front propaganda organizations.

Thanks Veronica. I thoroughly

Thanks Veronica. I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. It is nice to hear positive programming. There is so much news everywhere. So many axes to grind. It seems that is all we are sometimes, an axe being ground to a keen edge yet never sharp enough to cut through the pain and the rage of our daily lives. This was a breath of fresh air, something new. I will tune in again.

My summation of the

My summation of the programme:

--Cue late 70s early 80s New Age slogans and rhetoric: Love yourself--World Peace through "Self-Actualization." (Hey, how's that one been working out for us lately?)

--Blah...Steve Jobs...Blah, Blah...more New Age Blah...

--Crap Happens, Be Happy

--Money doesn't buy you happiness (and apparently it also doesn't buy food, clothes, medical care, housing, education, sanitation etc)

*****By the way, "travelling to Europe with no money twice"??? What decade are we living in?****

--Harmonic Convergence...Blah...New Age Bla...Whoah! Sharp RIGHT (Wing) Turn ahead..."99% should stop being so MEAN to the 1%"

--It's AWESOME that Steven Hawking is paralyzed over 95% of his body...

--Civil Rights Movement GOOD "Bad Things"
--99% Movement BAD "Bad Things"

--Cue New Age Outro: Life is a Bowl of Cherries....
