The Oakland police had nothing to do with Oscar Grant's death. I'm sick of hearing this over and over on KPFA. I left Oakland occupy as soon as they started glorifying him.
Wonderful show!! Thank you so very much Mitch! Wow, what an inspiration.
I'm supportive of Drake's position but would like to get into specific movement building efforts .See my comments at her blog post.
Gerber makes an interesting point about the the responsibility being on the government and elected leaders. Reminds me of the joke the rabbi tells about why Jews are such great comedians siting their suffering and humanity. He then gives the example of a comedian walking down the street ,walks past a homeless person who asks "can you lend me $5 till pay day."The comedian somewhat annoyed asks "when's pay day,"to which the homeless person replies "how should I know , you're the one whose working."
The movement needs what organizers refer to as "great domes" or professors and intellectuals but they need grassroots organizers in the tradition of other movements , like the civil rights and labor movement.
