Hi Jodi, I am the producer of the segment - the interview with Jeff Bucholtz (not Buckles - sorry for the wrong spelling of his name - its corrected now). Thanks for your feedback - appreciate it. We have historically always had only women or transgendered people on the show - having men on the show is very rare and we choose to have men on who have feminist insights or analyses because the show is also about feminism and we do need male feminist allies and talking about it is on a women's show is not at the risk of marginalizing women's voices - we have men so rarely and it so happens you tuned in to our show at the one time we didn't have any female guests....also a question to consider - why can't we try to have more women on all the other shows you mentioned and why have women's magazine then have the burden of having all women - that's again narrowing down women's options isn't it? :) I encourage you to have a more broadened and nuanced approach to feminism....

Thanks

Preeti

Hi, Jodi, I am another producer on the show, and I have to admit that I had a lot of questions about whether we should be doing this. Especially since quite unintentionally, we ended up with two men on the show this week, as well as one doing an announcement.

I really think that we should be privileging the voices of women on our show; after all, it's the one hour a week of women-oriented programming. But I also know that we have men who listen and straight women who want their significant others to feel that women's liberation is also their struggle, and so I think sometimes -- very occasionally - it is good to put those voices forward as well.

I assure you, it won't become a trend.

Thanks for letting us know how you feel, and I hope you'll also let us know when we have women on the air you appreciate.

It's great that you had an

It's great that you had an articulate speaker in Jeff Buckles talking about violence about women.
However, I'm certain that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of interesting WOMEN to highlight on the one hour of Women's Magazine. Isn't it time that we stop having men define women's experience? Even Jeff, with his sensitivity to women's issues, might say that!

I enjoyed the discussion with

I enjoyed the discussion with Jeff Buckles about his film. However, I didn't know who he was while I was listening. For 20 minutes I was driving and listening to KPFA and this guy. When I got out of the car, I called the station and the person who answered said she didn't know who it was on the air, that it was recorded. 1. It seemed strange that a community radio station couldn't put me in touch with a live person to ask who the interviewee was (maybe interviewers can break in a little more often to announce who their guest is?) and then, 2. I got home nad looked up your schedule and see that this was on the Women's Magazine. That's doubly strange. While Jeff was articulate and interesting, so are a million women who are doing amazing things. When do women get to stop having men define or describe their issues of interest? Have Jeff Buckles on the morning show, have him on the afternoon news magazine type shows. Have WOMEN be on the women's magazine! That just seems so obvious to me....
