Dr. Makajani makes really good points about building efficiency, and of course California is an aggressive leader in this. Title 24 Part 6 of the California Building Code is the core document for building energy efficiency requirements in the state, and it is going into language for a new "2013" version planned to go into force in 2014. This goes along with the CalGreen standard which regulates water efficiency and other requirements for buildings. It takes work to excel at efficiency, but forward-thinking builders are seeing the value, as time goes on, in taking the many small steps to making sure a little bit of extra time is taken to get everything installed and tested the right way to reduce energy expenditures.
