I found the text of the

I found the text of the proposal here. Ironically enough, one must go through a thick layer of "whereas" statements to get to the two little paragraphs where the meat is at the end.

What raised my eyebrows were the exemptions. The tax will not be levied on sugar or HFCS containing beverages such as:

"For consumption by infants" like Pedialyte. So babies get all the sugar and HFCS.

"Medical food". So everyone who already has a health problem gets all the sugar and HFCS.

Dairy or plant protein containing, coffee, tea: Oh, so Sobe Tea, Snapple, Arizona, Frappucino, Red Bull, Rock Star, etc are no danger at all evidently, though I think they may all have HFCS.

And the most funny of all, the tax will not be leveled against sweetened liquids "for weight reduction". If HFCS and other "Caloric sweeteners" are the purported cause of heightened adiposity, then any product containing these which claims to be "for weight reduction" should be banned from all sale and reported to the FTC for false advertising, yes? I mean, if the "war on obesity" were to be conducted according to any logic to speak of, which judging from the result it has not done yet in 100 years.
