Voices of the Middle East and North Africa - January 7, 2004

This week , we have a special program on the devastating earthquake in Iran that took the lives of more than 35,000 people. We talk with prominent Iranian writer Alisharaf Darvisian, and Dr Fariborz Raisdana, economist from Iran, about the efforts of non-governmental organizations to help the survivors of the earth quake and the Islamic Republic’s reaction to this catastrophe.

We'll also talk with Dr Mohesen Aboutorabi from the University of Central London on the history of Bam and the reasons behind the devastating structural failures in the Bam earthquake.
