Thanks for the coverage of George McGovern. It was the first I knew that he was ill. His 1972 campaign was the first time I got involved in politics, and I have admired him ever since. It was scary times. I had a young baby then and was concerned about ending up on an FBI list if I supported him, as they were infiltrating any movement against the Vietnam war. No one seems to be mentioning, though, that his 1972 campaign was when Watergate happened. I wonder what effect that had on the outcome of his campaign.
