I was initially surprised that the author had not considered the fact that 'royalty' is given unearned celebrity status until you mentioned it. But being a Brit I suppose that area of unconsciousness is written into his DNA. Though it does seem during the long process of writing his book the 'common sense' of it would have occurred to Mr. Amos.
