The interview of Toby Caine, Former Security Aide
at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle school in San Francisco
is nothing but twisted misrepresentations and untruths.
It is obvious this is very pointed and one sided without even the
most basic background research conducted previous to interview.
The interviewer makes this into a racial issue and false intimidation.
First false info: MLK Jr. Middle school, is located in Portola not Bayview as stated.
One of many inaccuracies and lies stated in this interview that Toby Caine did
not correct the interviewer on.
It is primarily an Asian neighborhood, not one of the last "Black
neighborhoods" as stated by interviewer. That would be true if it were located
in Bayview, but it is not. So although the school is named after MLK Jr.
it is not an African American neighborhood, nor is the student population
primarily African American.
Second false statement:
Interesting that you start the piece on saying it's a "cover up" by school officials,
without knowing any of the facts of the situation.
Please get the facts before slandering and misrepresenting people.
There are two sides to every story.
This is completely one sided, pointed, and defames Principal Eberhard
who after investigation, including videotape of incident Toby Caine
describes, which proves Principal Eberhard never sat on the student,
nor did she act improperly in anyway. Toby Caine, however,
did not perform his duties as Security Aide during the incident he is
referring to, and has been therefore, been discharged with legitimate reason.
Toby Caine is a disgruntled employee, who in fear of losing his job,
due to his own negligence of duties, is grasping at straws in order to try
and save his job and reputation.
This interview reminds me of how anyone with a platform can twist information
and use stereotypes and misconceptions to sway people's thinking.
And it's easy to believe if you don't know the facts because it plays right into
what people often believe, which may be true in some situations but is not in this one.
Shame on KPFA and this interviewer for this type of manipulative and harmful
reporting. Shame on KPFA and this interviewer for playing the race card,
and not doing their homework to provide balanced and fair reporting.
Many of us know the truth and Toby Caine is not stating it for us, nor was
