Dear Mitch,
Listening to Professor Turner's “fiercely Moderate NGO Perspective” leaves one less informed and more confused as to what is at the root of this problem in the African Sahel. On his own program he has consistently refused to drive the point home of our (US, Britain and NATO) ill-fated 69 day bombing campaign and catastrophic destruction of the Libyan State as the root of this current problem. This would mean that criticism of the Obama Administration would be required. He simply won't go there.
For me it is important to assign blame when a crime has been committed. It's clear to most of us who have lived in and or studied African Society and Economic Development; that smashing the Libyan State was going to set off a chain of events that would be catastrophic for the region. So, for anyone, and particularly Professor Turner not to get this point takes your breath away.
The pathology of “Disaster Capitalism” promoted by imperialist powers will take advantage of the current chaos and destabilization created - to grab resources and install obedient client and even new rump states too weak to defend themselves.
We could even be looking at a Syrian type attack on Algeria – IE; the use of “death squads” to destroy the country from the inside out.
You get the idea. One could go on, but Professor Turner comes off as promoting disinformation in the context of justifying French-led involvement.
Excellent rebuttal by Catman. We need more perspectives of like nature. Perhaps he can make appropriate suggestions to Mitch, regarding potential interviewees.
In fact, I'd like Catman to be interviewed. Can that be arranged, Catman, Mitch (I'm serious!)?
great show!!!
