Years ago when smoking in banks etc was first prohibited, I predicted someday smoking in public streets would be banned. Most people thought that was an outrageous idea which would never happen. But it did! Now we're considering banning smoking in one's own home? Or banning tobacco sales altogether? What is causing this madness? I guess people feel so out of control of their individual and collective lives; on a gut level people know we're heading for disastrous times. But it's a lot of work to go after the oil, nuclear & other industries spewing thousands of times more pollutants into the air and water. Or chemical and drug companies putting poisons into our food and products all around us,and even into our genes.. So much easier to try blaming and controlling an easier target: individual smokers.
