Letters and Politics

As the Papal Conclave elects Jorge Bergoglio, today we'rel be in conversation with early Christian scholar Candida Moss about the power structures of the Vatican that goes beyond the position of Pope. We also talk about her book The Myth of Persecution.

Then later we talk to Vikki Law about the history of women uprisings in prison. She's the author of the book Resistance Behind Bars.

Great guest Candida Moss.

Great guest Candida Moss. She says very important things about the false history of Christian persecution especially how it hurts everyday discourse and creates a toxic political environment. Once a politican like Rick Santorum compares someone who disagrees with him to a persecutor (calling on the Christian traditions) - the conversation is over, there is no room for discussion. This a democracy killing strategy by many right wing Christians.

I became obsessed with her

I became obsessed with her "you knows" & couldn't take it after a while! Oh well ......

I loved your guest today...

I loved your guest today... However, I suggest for her to be accepted as an authority on her subject matter she get rid of the word "You know" at the end of every sentence, she says... No, we really don't know, that is why we are listening to her and research she has done. There is no need to pause with "You Know".. simply pause, let the statement be. anyone will come across much much better and more believable.

I know. It makes my teeth

I know. It makes my teeth hurt. There was an interview today with a prison activist that had more "you know"s, you know, than I have ever heard before. She was not a professional academic and I just coped. Professional people should have the personal insight to know when they need some training in public speaking, ya know.
