Letters and Politics – Anti-Communist Purges

The Supreme Court has wrapped up its second day of hearings on same gender marriage. Today the Court took up the Defense of Marriage Act, signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1996, that defines marriage at the federal level as being between a man and a woman. Coming up we’ll talk about what DOMA is and the Constitutional issues around it.

Then we’ll look at the history of the Supreme Court and academic freedom with Marjorie Heins, author of the book Priests of Our Democracy: The Supreme Court, Academic Freedom and the Anti-Communist Purge.
