Gigi losing home: Why would a

Gigi losing home:

Why would a retired person whose income is decreasing move to a further upscale property area at a time when reports were saying that real estate, finance, investment were heading for a bust? Did this woman own that original house in Oakland after having worked for 30 years? Why didn’t she stay there or why didn’t she didn’t get a fixed loan? I agree that the corporations, including the banks and other financial institutions along with government were/are liars and corrupt; but I keep returning to a deeper problem of education in this country, the quality of education (schooling up and down the line) and generally Americans’ misplaced priorities under the constant mantra of what we should value. There are people in the world who live (if you can call it “living”) in camps and tents, caused by Americans’ wars against them; and somehow many of them manage to survive, even get “educated,” far above the level of some Americans’ education. We, on the other hand, want more and more and more of what the other fellow has. Shelter is (that is, should be) a human right; home ownership or some nonsensical “American dream” is not (and should not be) a human right. I am sorry for this woman but something seems amiss to me: not only on the parts of government and corporations; but also in the area of individual, personal responsibility. /clb
