The government gives grants

The government gives grants to leading universities in this country to create and promote militarism, varying aspects of militarism including torture tactics, and capitalism. There are ROTC military programs on campuses, a vehicle for staffing wars and violence and a certain ideology. This has been in the news. People and universities don’t have to take these programs or the money any more than people have to shop at Wal-Mart, a company widely reported to act immorally and illegally against people, against workers, whether they are working directly with Wal-Mart or its contractors. But people in the millions “can’t stop” shopping at Wal-Mart. They “do not” but they don’t have to shop there. The core systems, elections, health, education and welfare, agriculture, labor, various and sundry would-be and should-be regulatory agencies of government from Washington and in the states of the United States have been be eroding, breaking down for years. Dark corporate, corrupt moneyed people come in and take advantage of the weakness of people and governmental systems (why can’t we imagine third parties and fourth parties, and more; why are the Dems/Repubs sacrosanct?). If you go back to Reagan through Clinton and Obama, you have corrupt, war mongering, cowardice, weak, inept people heading the government. Obama never has been a “progressive!” And this author pushing his book can take this side or that but it doesn’t wash for me. Until the people of the United States, ordinary people, the majority of whom don’t even bother to vote and who are blissfully ignorant, and who act as if this is “someone else’s country,” change their ethos and attitude, their way of doing and being – nothing will change in this country. This author can talk as much as he likes about “rich” people; but ordinary Americans who “must” shop at Wal-Mart are those who enrich the “rich” people. One the things that concerns me about your program and other similar programs on KPFA – and I’m a contributor, so I like Pacifica’s and KPFA’s news and information programming – but you don’t balance such solo performances with a panel, a discussion group ─ not simply to disagree with a solo point of view; but to enhance and expand the discussion, the understanding, broaden the context. There is a larger context and there are far deeper issues than abortion, marriage, left-right issues. America is in crisis, a self-made crisis and the situation requires more such terribly limited interviews. This is my point of view.
