This was a powerful interview with Prof. Pedro Noguera. I defer to you and your guest regarding best practices in teacher/student/parent relationships and the internal mechanics of education.
However; the takeaway for me and all concerned Californians should be that we are not taxing our Corporations and super rich individuals enough. Apple, Google and too many others are actively engaged in all manner of tax avoidance schemes. These maybe legal, but certainly not ethical. So, the State of California should have no qualms about significantly raising taxes on these entities and individuals.
When California Prop 30 was passed - surprise surprise we were able to pull ourselves out of deficit, but only partially restored previous cuts to education and most of the other state services. Let's keep in mind that California has an almost 2 Trillion dollar economy. FY 2011, the gross state product (GSP) is about $1.96 trillion
There is simply no excuse Not to be able to fully fund education and all of our other state services.
