Thank you very much for your segment on Nov 5 about Twitter and gentrification in the South of Market area in San Francisco. This is a very important issue that is often overlooked even by progressive media outlets.
These newly-employed young kids come into town and break up families and neighborhoods in the course of their transitory stay here, and they leave communities much worse off after they are gone -- which will be true in this case, too. After all, Twitter has never shown a profit at all, not a dime -- and yet they keep expanding.. That sure looks like an unsustainable bubble to me. And besides that, wasn't the world a lot better without having a company dedicated to turning communication into slogans and gossip? Yes, Twitter did play some initial useful roles in political organizing and news coverage -- but those days are long gone. Like every other internet application, Twitter can now be easily manipulated to work against democracy as much as work for it.
