Government Emergency Preparedness and Response: The Environmental Angle
In the wake of Katrina, many of us are wondering whether government
officials have prepared adequately to help the Bay Area escape the fate of
New Orleans and protect the environment from toxic hazards if disaster
strikes here. Tune in to Terra Verde to find out. Our three guests
implement emergency preparedness and response from an environmental angle:
Randy Sawyer, Director of the Hazardous Materials Program, Health Services
Dept of Contra Costa County; Dan Meer, Chief, Response, Planning, and
Assessment Branch, Superfund Division, EPA Region 9; and Carolyn Merritt,
Chairman, US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.
