The 8th Annual Bay Area Flamenco Festival

With three weekends of exciting shows featuring world-class flamenco artists direct from Spain.
The icon of Gypsy flamenco dance, Concha Vargas will be featured on Saturday, Sept. 21st at La Pena Cultural Center, Berkeley and Sunday, Sept 22 at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz. Internationally renowned flamenco guitarist David Serva will be featured on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz and on Sunday, Spet. 29th at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. The rising star of Gypsy flamenco dance Gema Moneo will be featured on Friday, Oct 4 at the Brava Theater, San Francisco, Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Thrust Stage, Berkeley Repertory Theatre and on Sunday, Oct 6th at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz. All shows start at 8 pm. Concha Vargas will also be teaching a one-day only flamenco dance workshop in Berkeley at Ashkenaz on Sat., Sept. 21 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Gema Moneo will also be teaching a one-day only flamenco dance workshop at Ashkenaz on Sat., Oct. 5th from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. There will also be a special event: Flamenco Project: A Slideshow and roundtable discussion regarding the acclaimed photo collection edited by guitarist/photographer Steve Kahn that will be discussed by a panel of artists and flamenco aficionados who lived in Spain in the 1960's & 70's featuring Steve Kahn, David Serva, Jill Bacan, Paul Shalmy, Kenny Parker and Mica Grana.
