On Saturday, August 17th, the Jamaican American Association of Northern California (JAANC) will be holding its first “Jamaican Folktales and African Diaspora Storytelling.” There will be stories, songs, poems, Jamaican souvenirs and light refreshments to celebrate Jamaica's 51st Year of Independence and the birthday of the Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey. This event will be held at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts, 1428 Alice St. in Oakland from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
