Bill McKibben, “the planet’s best green journalist” (Time Magazine) and “probably the country’s most important environmentalist” (Boston Globe) is the author of a dozen books about the environment and the founder of the dynamic grassroots climate campaign 350.org, which has coordinated more than 15,000 rallies in nearly 200 countries since 2009. He holds honorary degrees from a dozen colleges, including the Universities of Massachusetts and Maine, the State University of New York, and Whittier and Colgate Colleges. In 2011 he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s, Mother Jones, The New York Review of Books, Granta, Rolling Stone, and Outside. He has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Lannan Prize.

350.org is an international grassroots campaign to mobilize a global climate movement united by a common call to action. An independent and not-for-profit project, 350.org is spreading an understanding of climate science and a shared vision for a fair policy to ensure the world creates bold and equitable solutions to the climate crisis. Clearly this is particularly crucial in an era in which the leading contenders for the U.S. presidency do not mention the primary threat to the planet.

Do the Math! will be an evening of informed, enlightened talk, video and music designed to spark the first full-on challenge to the fossil fuel industry. Surprise guests will be announced prior to the event, which McKibben describes as “a little like a TED talk, but somewhat longer and a lot more dangerous.”

Josh Fox is the Academy-Award nominated Director of Gasland.

Brian Edwards-Tiekert is a producer and the host of KPFA’s popular morning program UpFront.
