Barack Obama made history in 2008 when he became the nation's first African American president. His victory stood on the shoulders of black freedom fighters throughout history, but what has his presence meant for black America as we gear up for the next presidential election?

In its first book project, the Pacifica Radio Archives has teamed up with City Lights Books to produce Redefining Black Power: Reflections on the State of Black America. With contributions from Michelle Alexander (The New Jim Crow), Van Jones (former White House Green advisor and President of 'Rebuild The Dream') and Dr Vincent Harding (founder of Veterans of Hope and script writer for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ), Redefining Black Power addresses some of the key issues for black america; mass incarceration, media portrayal, the role of black leadership, democratic participation and economic disparity.

Empower yourself and your loved ones by preparing for the eventual end of life.
Explore options—possible decisions you and/or your loved ones can make now and may

not be able to make nearer death. Living well includes preparing for a compassionate death.

The workshop will include:
    •  an overview of the key end of life issues   •   critical health decision making

    •  resolving family differences  •  advanced directives  •  home funerals and ecological burials  
    •  extensive discussion of your questions  •  time to fill out forms such as designating your Health Care Power of Attorney.

Each participant will receive a packet with facts about dying, costs, green burials, home funerals, Advanced Directives, DNRs and Living Wills.

Led by Ann-Ellice Parker, CEO of Seasons of Change and death education counselor dedicated to providing safe spaces for courageous discussions about death and dying.
