Honoring Gina Hotta Gina Hotta, collegue, friend, passed away on 9.29.09Her spirit lives on and her work endures! Longtime KPFA producer Gina Haruko Hotta died early on the morning of September 29th of a heart attack at the age of 56. Gina was an award winning documentary producer and executive producer of KPFA's weekly program APEX Express which airs Thursdays at 7 p.m. She won awards from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Federation of Community Broadcasters and the Asian American Journalists Association. Gina was a recording studio supervisor at the UC Berkeley Language Lab. She collapsed at a union meeting at UC Berkeley last night which had been called to discuss the next steps following last Thursday's walkout by thousands of UC students, faculty and staff. Gina leaves behind her husband Michael Yoshida, KPFA's Operations Director.
