KPFA-FM is a non-commercial, listener-sponsored station in Berkeley, California, and is the flagship of the five-station Pacifica Radio Network. KPFA seeks a hard-working, politically savvy half-time Associate/Technical Producer for Flashpoints. Airing from 5-6 PM weekdays, Flashpoints is a public affairs program focusing on investigative reporting and news analysis. Most programs consist of three to four segments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In conjunction with the producer, research and develop investigative stories;
Pre-interview and book guests; prepare questions for interview segments, write broadcast copy;
Record and produce field sound and interviews on location;
Provide technical support as requested, including dubbing and editing content;
Board-op pre-recorded segments; On air engineering of program;
Record and edit pre-produced segments of program; Mix daily program;
Produce live remotes of program as needed;
Participate in station-wide projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Very strong writing skills;
Familiarity with local, national and international social and political issues;
Technical production skills, including digital editing;
Commitment to accurate and news-driven journalism and Pacifica's mission;
Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines;
Demonstrated ability to work well with others;
SALARY:
This Communication Workers of America union position is a 20 hour per week job. [Monday through Friday]. Current salary is $19.42 per hour plus generous benefits after a six-month probation period.
