Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – September 29, 2004

For this week’s program, , we will first hear an interview with Sonali Kolhatkar, who is the co-director of the Afghan Women’s Mission. We will talk to her about the plight of women in Afghanistan nearly three years after the invasion of Afghanistan of Oct 7th. Later in the program, we will speak with Iraqi poet and writer Sinan Antoon, about his documentary "About Baghdad." This documentary revolves around Sinan’s return to his native Baghdad in July of 2003, after twelve years of exile in the United States. "About Baghdad" will be screened as part of the 8th annual Arab film festival, which starts on Oct 2nd and ends Oct. 24th. Also in the program, a conversation with Rayan El Amin, program director at the American-Arab Anti- Discrimination Committee in San Francisco (ADC) about a day-long conference on October 2nd in San Francisco, commemorating the 4th anniversary of the 2nd Palestinian Intifada.
