Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – December 27, 2006

In this week’s program, by popular demand we bring you back two of our listeners’ favorite segments of the year 2006. First, an interview with Haifa University History Professor Ilan Pappe on his stunning new book, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, which demystifies the history of the Nakbah, the 1948 catastrophe that befell Palestinians, when over half of the population was forcibly expelled from its lands. In this new volume, published in October, Dr. Pappe meticulously documents how the ethnic cleaning of Palestine was anything but an inadvertent by-product of war; rather, it was methodically planned and executed, and then historically distorted by the Zionist movement for the past 58 years.

On a lighter note, the second segment we will hear is a rather delicious and mouth-watering interview we did with Linda Dalal Sawaya, author of the cook book: Alice’s kitchen: My Grandmother Dalal & Mother Alice’s Traditional Lebanese Cooking.
