Program Council Application

Volunteer Position Announcement

Call for KPFA Program Council Listener Representatives:

KPFA is looking for Listener Representatives to sit on the KPFA Program Council.

The Program Council is a vital part of the functioning of KPFA - a working committee composed of a diverse group of staff, board, management and listeners meeting to coordinate and schedule programming and to review proposals for new programs on KPFA.

Being a member of the Program Council will require at least four hours a week of your time including listening to program tapes for review purposes. Representatives must attend weekly PC meetings and be willing to attend occasional LSB and Program Committee meetings. Representatives sometimes may be asked to attend special subcommittee meetings as well

Listeners interested in serving as representatives to the KPFA Program Council are requested to write a Letter of Interest. Please describe yourself, your relationship to KPFA and to the communities from which you come. Don't forget to include your contact information.

Please address the following matters:

  • Your relationship with KPFA and your familiarity with the Pacifica Foundation Radio Mission.

  • How long you have been listening to KPFA?

  • On average, how many hours do you listen to radio, including by online and which stations?

  • Why you want to be on the Program Council?

  • What particular skills you would contribute to the Program Council?

  • What criteria do you think should be used to evaluate a program idea? Do you think the criteria for evaluating an existing program and a program proposal should be different or the same? Why?

  • What experience do you have in face-to-face critiquing of another person's creative work?

  • What types of programs do you find lacking on KPFA or in too great abundance and why?

  • Do you think building the audience, building the membership base, smooth programming transitions and air quality of programs should be taken into consideration and how would you weigh those factors against pure subject matter or political content?

  • Programming changes have sometimes been contentious at KPFA. What suggestions do you have for making program evaluations, additions, and changes more acceptable to all staff members?

  • What communities do you feel you represent? How do you communicate with those communities and how are you accountable to those communities?

  • What organizations do you identify and/or work with and in what capacity?

  • Related qualifications and accomplishments
